Speaker Talk: Changing the Perspective – A family systems approach to addiction

We often say that addiction is a family disease. However, most of the treatment offered today is centered on the individual struggling with addiction. Quite often a person’s addiction is a result of inter-generational trauma, and transition. The whole family has a part in the disease as well as the healing. By looking at the past, and addressing unresolved grief and loss, families can move past the need for addiction to distract from their pain.
