Speaker Talk: Identifying and Treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in the Wilderness

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is re-contextualized in wilderness and adventure programs. This may result in symptoms being missed, masked, or misunderstood, thus derailing treatment, or creating illusory progress. Alternatively, wilderness and adventure therapies entail a unique opportunity to address these challenging presentations by conducting evidence-supported CBT/exposure therapy in a naturalistic way that is simply not feasible in other settings. Utilizing case examples, this presentation aims to be both informative and experiential for the audience to increase their understanding of the complexities of OCD by conceptualizing and discussing treatment in the context of wilderness and adventure settings.
