Speaker Talk: Eating Disorders 101

JD Ouellette will be delivering a broad overview of the up-to-date understanding of eating disorders in an Eating Disorders 101 presentation, followed by a Q & A session. Eating disorder research in the last decade has improved our ability to identify and treat eating disorders, yet this knowledge has not made its way into the mainstream of medicine and society due to a well-documented 17 year gap in medicine between research and clinical adoption of research findings. Eating disorders are the 2nd deadliest mental illness in the USA (after opioid use disorder), and they occur in all demographics and societies, yet are woefully misunderstood. JD will discuss the importance of screening for eating disorders, particularly in children, adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, OCD, substance use disorder, and other common co-occurring conditions, as well as what evidence-based treatment looks like in 2023.
