Speaker Talk: Supporting Families With Children, Adolescents and Young Adults Struggling With Self-Injury & Suicide

Family system and parents striving to support their child, adolescent and young adult engaging in self-harm or struggling with suicidality is one of the most painful experiences that parents and siblings will encounter. This can have detrimental effects on the entire family system, often resulting in trauma, PTSD and negatively impacting each member of the family, including the person struggling to maintain their safety. This presentation and discussion will explore ways in which we can help teach skills and strategies to family members supporting their child and sibling in crisis and discuss approaches that families can leverage to successfully mitigate the suffering and loneliness that family systems experience when a teen or young adults is engaging in self-harming behaviors.
