Heather Ross Coaching

When you discover that your child is struggling with addiction, your life as you knew it ends. You live in fear for their life, self-doubt creeps in, and the desire to help your child becomes all-consuming. Yet the advice you often get involves what not to do. It can be agonizing when suggestions like tough love clash with your parental instincts.

But here’s some hopeful news: studies show that staying connected with your child significantly improves long-term outcomes. Your unparalleled understanding of your child, coupled with your unwavering determination to support them, is an incredible superpower!

As a mother who has walked this path myself, I understand the daunting journey both during and after recovery. Change is hard for everyone, and that’s why having a parent coach is invaluable as you learn how to support yourself and your child.

Instead of telling you what not to do, I give you science-backed practical tools including CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) and Invitation to Change (ITC). I break those tools down into small actionable steps customized to your family’s needs so you can create the best possible conditions for your child’s change process and get your peace of mind and happiness back.

Helping Parents Heal

Helping Parents Heal

Helping Parents Heal is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting bereaved parents. Through support and resources offered, we aspire to help individuals become “Shining Light Parents”—meaning a shift from a state of emotional heaviness to one of hopefulness and greater peace of mind. HPH goes a step beyond other groups by allowing the open discussion of spiritual experiences and afterlife evidence—in a non-dogmatic way. HPH affiliate groups welcome everyone regardless of religious or non-religious background and encourage open dialog.

Homing Instinct

I am a guide on your family’s healing path, in this space because of my own journey. As a child and teenager, I coped with pain through self-harm, disordered eating, and other dangerous behaviors. I went through multiple treatment interventions, from hospitalization to wilderness therapy. When I left treatment, I was functional on the surface, free of “problem behavior” and addiction, but still at war with myself. So I committed to recovery. Through incredible teachers, communities, and modalities, I completely shifted my life. I now use my experiences and insight to support people going through their own challenges. I believe that teenagers are a widely misunderstood group. They have phenomenal awareness, creativity, and capacity to grow. Most teenager’s struggles come from their sensitivity, and the beliefs they form about their worth. As a mentor, I guide teens through understanding their emotions and beliefs, learning new tools for self-regulation, and rediscovering their innate wholeness and power. I also work with parents to best support their child’s healing, and share writing on mental health and wellbeing.
